ALLAN WOOD
Allan has been involved with graphics and photography for over 35 years. He has spent nearly 25 years as an educator and has had his own portrait and photo lab business for 6 years. He spent 12 years teaching at McIntosh College where he also researched and developed the successful Associate's Degree program in Digital Photography, where he also taught most of the courses. His book "The Graphic Designer's Digital Toolkit" is now in its 5th edition integrating traditional graphic design concepts with technologies in Adobe computer graphics. He created an academic web site at www.digitoolkit.com. His images have appeared in magazines, cards, and calendars. His recent projects include developing a New England lighthouse tourism Web site at www.nelights.com, photographing all 168 of New England's lighthouses, and publishing a new book entitled "New England Lighthouse Stories: Shipwrecks, Rescues, and Hauntings".

Course is for absolute beginners and confused users.Point and shoot cameras have a fixed lens that can’t be removed. Objective for this course is to learn basic camera operations, lens, batteries, composition techniques, and downloading procedures. You will be looking at the basic settings and main controls of your camera, going out to take photos, and getting your great pictures into a computer to show the world. Bring your camera with fully charged batteries, a memory card and the manual.

Dive deeper into learning about your point and shoot camera. Learn about lots of those menus and setting, and when to use them. The course will also cover resolution, metering, exposure, compensation, ISO, and white balance. This course is for those who have taken photos before, and are familiar with the main controls. Bring your camera with fully charged batteries, a memory card and the manual.

This beginner course is for those who have cameras that have interchangeable lenses and what to learn to control their settings for creating professional quality, sharp images. Care of cameras, use of filters and learning about types of lenses, methods of exposure, composition, and controlling “depth of field” for portraits and close ups, and stop action by using aperture (f-stop) and shutter speed combinations set on your camera, and good compositional techniques to help you take great photos will be discussed and demonstrated. Bring your camera with fully charged batteries, a memory card and the manual. Limited to 10.

Dive deeper to learn about special settings and components of your camera involving white balance, resolution for print and web media, ISO settings, exposure compensation, using the Manual setting, and, we begin discussing controlling your portable flash unit for fill flash outdoors and regular flash photography. Bring your camera fully charged and the manual, and your portable flash if you have one.
