ESOL and Citizenship

ESOL Classes -  Schedule

Adult ESOL classes are geared to teach basic vocabulary through reading and writing skills.

Classes are FREE (except advanced) and are held at the Adult Learning Center at 61 Locust Street in Dover, next to the Dover Public Library.

NEW STUDENTS MUST REGISTER BEFORE ATTENDING CLASSES. STUDENTS MUST BE 18 YEARS OF AGE TO ATTEND ESOL CLASSES. PLEASE CALL THE OFFICE TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT 742-1030. Students can only begin class at the beginning of the next month.

Adult ESOL Classes 2012/2013

Advanced ESOL Classes -  Schedule

Tuition: $30 each session
The Advanced ESOL classes listed below are appropriate for ESOL students who have Level 3 or better English skills. Course content includes reading and discussing newspapers, short stories, plays, etc., to increase comprehension & vocabulary, writing essays, grammar lessons, and discussing everyday language.
Tuesday afternoon 12:30-2:30 p.m. Begins April 30, 2013
Wednesday night 6:00-8:00 p.m. Begins May 1, 2013

 

 

Citizenship

Free of Charge

Learn about US government, history and the responsibilities & opportunities of democratic life. Curriculum based on US citizen-ship application & test questions.

Appropriate for intermediate or advanced ESOL students. Work on English skills & vocabulary through focused readings, class discussion & small group activities. Includes film on what makes for successful citizenship interview and a live, simulated interview.

Conversation Classes

Beginner Level

DAY: Fridays, from 9:30-11:30 a.m., starting September 28, 2012

Come practice your English speaking skills. You will practice:

  • pronunciation
  • vocabulary
  • conversation
  • listening

 

ESOL/Civics Reading & Discussion Group

For Higher Level II and Level III

DAYS: Fridays, from 9:30-11:30 a.m., starting September 28, 2012

We will be doing some reading and a lot of discussion. Practice your pronunciation, work on your grammar, learn some new words, and share your ideas.  Each week you will look at some aspect of living in America choosing from:

  • American Culture and society and both the joys and challenges of coming to live in the US
  • Events and famous people in US History
  • US Law in day to day life
  • Community Resources
  • Issues in current events and politics
  • Geography facts and skills
