Biography:

Alhassane is definitely taking advantage of what Dover Adult Learning Center has to offer.  He is learning through three different resources - classes, tutor, and discussion group.

A Guinea native, Alhassane can speak two languages, and his is learning a third - English.  As a child he spoke SouSou.  In school he learned French, which he speaks with his wife.  And, now he is learning English.  Alhassane can be found Tuesday and Thursday in Joyce Malley's classroom learning to speak English better.  He has been in the United States about five months, and he speaks English very succinctly.  He likes reading, writing, speaking, and games in English in Joyce's class.  He also joins in the Friday discussion groups with others who want to practice their English.

In addition, Alhassane wants to learn about the computer.  He has just been paired with Lee Gerheart, a tutor.  They will be meeting a couple days a week so Alhassane can learn more about the computer.  Already he has been learning to email, open, and send his email as well as other computer tasks which make communication with his homeland better.  He would also not mind eventually having a job using the computer.

Right now his job is drumming, and his musical expertise can be seen on YouTube.  He has six in assorted sizes and shapes.  He teaches African drumming.  When he was in Guinea he played for some 10 years with a group of about 30 drummers and dancers.  He drums with his hands as well as with drum sticks.

And it was his drumming which enabled him to meet his wife, Elizabeth, who works at UNH.  She was in Boke Kataminoi, Guinea studying West African dance when they first met.  It was she who brought him to the United States.  And, they married in December in the U.S.  So, do not be surprised if you see Alhassane at the Center.  He is here a lot.
